Matthew C. Vella is an international award-winning filmmaker, comedian, podcaster & entertainer from Blacktown, Western Sydney. Born of Maltese immigrant parents, Matt is a proud pop-culture dork who has dedicated his life to entertaining others.

Matt’s short debut film Bleeding Backs (2016) won awards both internationally and at home, with 5 wins & 14 official selections, screening in the US, Canada, U.K, New Zealand and all over Australia. His follow up saw him switching genres to comedy with She's Not Your Type (2018). She’s Not Your Type then took the festival circuit by storm, winning a variety awards including Best International Director (twice!), Best Comedy, Best Editor, an Audience Choice Award and more. His latest project, Nobody Likes Camping (2020) stars popular comedian & YouTuber Neel Kolhatkar and is currently gearing up for it’s world premiere.

When he's not writing & directing films, Matt is generally talking about them on the Midnight Double Feature podcast, as well as hosting Western Sydney Filmmakers Hangout - a popular networking group he co-founded and hosts with live events held quarterly. Recently, Matt can also be found perfecting his writing & performance skills by performing stand-up comedy at open mics all over Sydney.

He’s not just mediocre looks either! Matt has 3 separate degrees relating to film. This includes a Masters of Media Arts and Production from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Matt loves to tell trendy, entertaining, fun-filled genre stories in comedy, action & horror.
